Is your spending keeping pace with your values?

October 07, 2026

As wealth grows, opportunities and requests for financial support often grow. There are more opportunities, more asks, and more quiet pressure to spend in ways that don't necessarily trace back to what truly matters to you. Each individual decision can look perfectly reasonable in the moment, and yet, over time, spending can drift further from purpose than you'd expect.

The answer often comes down to priorities.

A useful exercise: name two or three values you want your spending to reflect — family connection, education, community impact, whatever rings true for you. Then look at what's recurring in your financial life right now. Whether that be memberships, standing gifts, ongoing support you've been providing for a while. Some of it may warrant a fresh look to ensure it aligns with your priorities.

The goal here is making sure the money moving out of your life is doing what you want it to do.

If it's been a while since you've stepped back, reaching out to a financial professional can help align your spending with the values and goals that matter most to you.
